Batam, 30 June 2023 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or PT PELNI has announced an adjustment in ticket rates for passenger and pioneer ships that apply nationally, including the Batam area. The new fares for passenger and pioneer ships will apply to ticket purchases from 1 July 2023.

PELNI Director of Passenger Transport Business Yahya Kuncoro stated that the new tariff adjustment as of July 1 will be based on RI Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 7 concerning Passenger Tariffs and Mining Fees for Pioneer Sea Transportation and PM No. 8 concerning Upper Limit Tariffs for Economy Class Domestic Sea Passengers.

"The PM 7 and PM 8 2023 regulations regulate the adjustment of the base rate per mile. Meanwhile, the amount of insurance is still the same, while the port pass fee component is under the authority of the port manager," said Yahya during the Socialization of PM 7 and PM 8 of 2023 in Batam, Friday (30/6).

Yahya added, the new fare will apply to ticket purchases starting July 1, while ticket purchases this June for travel in July, the old fare will still apply. Yahya said, for the basic fare for the Batam route to Tanjung Balai Karimun, the previous Rp. 33,000 (not including travel insurance and port pass) was adjusted to Rp. 47,000. An example of another section for Batam - Tanjung Priok from IDR 310,000 to IDR 336,000.

As additional information, the old rates for pioneer ships have been in force or have not changed for 21 years according to Ministerial Decree No. 86 of 2002 concerning Passenger Tariffs and Pioneer Sea Freight Mine Fees. Meanwhile, passenger ship fares have used the same rates for the last 6 years with reference to PM No. 109 of 2017 concerning the Upper Limit Tariff for Economy Class Domestic Sea Passenger Transport.

"Although the old rates have not changed for years, we are focused on improving customer service, starting from ticket purchase transaction services, to more comfortable onboard facilities. Of course, with this new policy, we will be even more eager to provide better service to our customers," added Yahya.

Currently, PELNI customers have found it easier to buy tickets in advance by accessing the PELNI Mobile application and the official PELNI website.
