PELNI and BKI Strengthen Maritime Synergy for Safer and More Efficient Sea Transport

PT PELNI (Persero) has entered a strategic partnership with PT BKI (Persero) to strengthen safety, efficiency, and innovation in the national sea transport sector.

PT PELNI (Persero) continues to strengthen synergy with fellow state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the maritime sector to improve the safety and efficiency of sea transportation services. On February 6, 2025, PELNI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) or BKI at BKI’s Head Office in Jakarta.

This collaboration reflects PELNI's commitment to supporting collective efforts in strengthening the national maritime industry, particularly through cooperation with BKI, which is part of IDSurvey, a holding company for state-owned survey services that also includes PT SUCOFINDO and PT Surveyor Indonesia.

The MoU signing was attended by Robert MP Sinaga, Director of Fleet and Engineering at PT PELNI (Persero); Andry Tanudjaja, Director of Institutional Relations at PT BKI (Persero); Arief Budi Permana, Deputy Director of Classification Business Management at BKI; along with management representatives from both companies.

Robert MP Sinaga emphasized the crucial role BKI plays in ship classification and expressed hope that the collaboration would continue to grow. “We hope this synergy will grow even stronger. All PELNI vessels are classified by BKI, and we rely heavily on their support and input, especially in survey and consultancy services,” he stated.

Similarly, Andry Tanudjaja, Director of Institutional Relations at BKI, highlighted that the purpose of the MoU is to strengthen inter-SOE collaboration in the maritime sector, particularly in ship safety. “We aim to support PELNI in the construction of new vessels and the maintenance of its fleet, while ensuring that ship health and safety standards are maintained,” he said.

This partnership covers several strategic areas, including human resource training and development, the use of survey and inspection technology, ship classification, and other technical support. Through this collaboration, both parties hope to improve ship safety standards, optimize fleet maintenance, and encourage innovation in national sea transportation operations.
