Medan, March 24, 2025 — PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has ensured its readiness for the 2025 Eid transportation season through a visit by PELNI’s President Director, Tri Andayani, to Belawan Port, Medan, North Sumatra on Monday (March 24).
PELNI has confirmed that all of its fleet of 55 ships is ready to sail after undergoing the annual docking process and passing the RAM Check inspection conducted by the Ministry of Transportation. This step ensures that all ships are in sea-worthy condition to serve the public during the peak season.
During the visit, Tri Andayani, or simply known as Anda, stated that during this Eid period, PELNI is facing a passenger increase projection of up to 644,000 people, which is why KM Nggapulu has been assigned to assist with the Jakarta-Batam route.
"We’ve relocated KM Nggapulu from Kupang to ensure that passengers from Jakarta to Batam are transported smoothly. Meanwhile, KM Kelud will be more intensively serving the Batam-Medan route to meet the demand in that area," explained Anda.
For Eid 2025, 1,100 free homecoming tickets have been provided 500 tickets from the North Sumatra Provincial Government for the Belawan-Medan route, 600 tickets from the Ministry of Transportation for the Belawan-Batam route.
All tickets have already been fully booked, with passengers now only waiting for their departure date.
Anda also highlighted the significant impact of the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy, which officially came into effect today. According to Anda, this policy has affected the travel patterns of the public.
"We’ve recorded a surge in passengers since Saturday, as Friday was the last working day before WFA was applied. We predict that the peak of the homecoming rush will occur on March 26, while the peak of the return flow is expected to happen on April 7. This surge is clearly influenced by the flexibility of WFA, which allows people to plan their homecoming trips more freely," Anda added.
PELNI has also collaborated and coordinated with various parties, including the Indonesian National Army (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), and port authorities to ensure a safe and smooth homecoming journey for the public.
To provide a safe and enjoyable homecoming experience, as hoped by the government and the Ministry of SOEs, PELNI customers can now make use of digital channels, such as the PELNI Mobile app or the official PELNI website.
PELNI tickets can also be purchased through various banking apps, including BCA Mobile’s Lifestyle feature, Sukha Livin Mandiri, BNI agen46, and retail networks like Indomaret and its partners, Alfamart, Alfamidi, ATA Tour, Fastpay, easybook.com, via.com, MMBC, Darmawisata Indonesia, Versa, and Topindo.
For payments, PELNI has partnered with Bank BTN, BRIVA, BNI Virtual Account, Permata Bank, Mandiri Virtual Account, Indomaret, OMI partners, Alfamart, Alfamidi, iSaku, Finpay, and Fastpay.
As a State-Owned Enterprise in the maritime transportation sector, PELNI currently operates 25 passenger ships, covering 511 segments with 1,359 routes and stopping at 74 ports.
In addition to passenger transport, PELNI also operates 30 pioneer shipping routes, providing accessibility for people in 3TP regions (Frontier, Outermost, and Underdeveloped). These pioneer ships serve 230 ports with a total of 522 segments. PELNI also operates 18 redeployment vessels.
