School Holiday, PELNI Invites Hundreds of Elementary Students for a Ship Tour at Tanjung Priok

Jakarta, June 20, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) invited hundreds of students from Pantai Indah Cilincing Private Elementary School in North Jakarta to tour a PELNI ship at Tanjung Priok Port on Friday (6/20). This "tour on board" activity is part of PELNI’s initiative to introduce the Maritime Insight of the Archipelago to communities within the Company's operational areas.

PELNI Corporate Secretary Evan Eryanto stated that the students' visit to the PELNI ship is part of the Company’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) program aimed at educating stakeholders in its operational areas.
"We hope this visit will broaden the students’ understanding of the vital role of ships in connecting the Indonesian archipelago," said Evan.

A total of 414 students and 29 teachers took part in the tour on board KM Kelud. The participants were welcomed by PELNI Jakarta Branch Head Dicky Dermawandi and KM Kelud Captain Capt. Herman. Also in attendance was the Principal of Pantai Indah Cilincing Elementary School, Arifin.

In addition to learning about the ship’s profile, the students were taken on a tour to see the ship’s facilities firsthand, including passenger cabins, commercial areas such as the cinema, cafeteria, and the bridge. The students were also educated on safety equipment and learned how to properly wear a life jacket.

"They saw firsthand the importance of safety equipment, which is essential during every voyage. As the largest multi-port shipping operator in Indonesia, PELNI transports thousands of people every day, and ensuring maritime safety is our top priority," Evan added.

KM Kelud is a type-2000 passenger ship serving the Jakarta – Batam – Tanjung Balai Karimun – Medan (round trip) route. At 120 meters in length, KM Kelud is a favorite ship among travelers on the Batam – Medan route and vice versa.
