Definitely Full, Beware of Running Out of PELNI Ship Tickets at These Five Ports

Jakarta, November 21, 2024 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) urges PELNI ship customers to immediately plan their trips during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holiday season. Especially for customers departing from these five busiest departure ports, be aware of the risk of running out of tickets due to the high public interest in the upcoming Nataru season.

Director of PELNI Passenger Transportation Business Nuraini Dessy revealed that these five ports always show a spike in passengers during every Nataru holiday season. "The five busiest departure ports for PELNI ships are Makassar, Ambon, Batam, Jayapura, and Belawan. So don't run out of tickets, because we also limit seats for the safety and security of passengers," said Dessy.

Makassar, added Dessy, is a class 1 port that is a transit center for ships from western, central and eastern Indonesia. It is not surprising that Makassar is the busiest departure port because the number of PELNI ships in the Port City reaches 14 fleets.

During the Nataru period from December 11, 2024 to January 8, 2025, the number of passengers departing from Makassar Port by PELNI ships is predicted to reach 36,819 people. This number has increased by almost 20 percent compared to 2023 which reached 30,751 people.

"Compared to last year, Makassar, Ambon and Jayapura are still in the Top 5 most crowded departure ports. Meanwhile, Batam and Belawan which entered this year have replaced Surabaya and Balikpapan as the most crowded last year," explained Dessy.

To anticipate the surge in passengers, Dessy said, PELNI has obtained additional permits or dispensations to transport passengers exceeding the ship's capacity. However, Dessy assured that the dispensation permits given by the Ministry of Transportation still take into account the availability of safety equipment on board.

Even though they have received dispensations, Dessy still anticipates prospective passengers who do not have tickets but still come to the port. This situation will certainly attract the presence of ticket brokers who offer tickets at higher prices.

"We are committed to eradicating ticket brokers in the port area, especially during the peak season of Nataru. We will coordinate with port law enforcement officers to increase supervision and take firm action against brokers around the port," said Dessy.

In addition to taking action against brokers, PELNI also appealed to prospective customers to utilize the various digital ticket purchase channels. Currently, PELNI customers can access the website or the PELNI Mobile application to find out ship schedules or make ticket bookings and payments.

On the other hand, PELNI has also collaborated with various digital sales partners. PELNI ship tickets can be accessed on several banking applications such as the Sukha feature on Livin Mandiri and Lifestyle on BCA Mobile. PELNI has also collaborated with BNI agent 46 and minimarket networks such as Indomaret and Alfamart which are spread widely in various regions in Indonesia.

The PELNI 162 Call Center also accepts complaint services for 24 hours via telephone line 021-162 or Whatsapp Official 08111621162. Information about ship schedules and Nataru can also be seen on PELNI's official social media accounts such as @pelni162 for Instagram and Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia for Facebook.
