Celebrating National Transportation Day, PELNI Distributes Scholarships for Outstanding Students of Surabaya Polytechnic

Surabaya, September 20, 2024 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has distributed scholarship funds for outstanding students from Surabaya Polytechnic of Shipping. Scholarship recipients will also be accepted as prospective employees at PT PELNI (Persero).

The scholarships were given directly by the Head of the Surabaya PELNI Branch together with the Director of Surabaya Polytechnic Moejiono during the Graduation and Release of Marine Transportation Officers at the Surabaya Polytechnic Campus, Thursday (19/9).

Head of PELNI Surabaya Branch Marthin Heryanto said that the provision of this scholarship is part of PELNI's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) social pillar program which is given as part of National Transportation Day 2024. "This scholarship fund assistance is a form of PELNI Management's attention in developing quality human resources to advance Indonesian sea transportation, as per the theme of this year's Harhubnas, Advanced Transportation, New Archipelago," said Marthin.

In addition to receiving scholarship funds totaling IDR 100 million, scholarship recipients are also accepted as prospective marine employees at PT PELNI (Persero).

"When conducting the selection for scholarship recipients, we collaborated with Poltekpel Surabaya to simultaneously recruit scholarship recipients as prospective employees. We are proud to be able to accept Poltekpel Surabaya graduates and we are waiting for the best contribution they can make to the Company," added Marthin.

Meanwhile, PELNI Vice President in charge of TJSL, Fauziah Ferryna said that the distribution of scholarships is one of the main programs in the social pillar that was realized this year. "The focus of our education program is to collaborate with shipping companies in Indonesia. That way we contribute to developing superior human resources, especially in the field of sea transportation," explained Ferryna.

In addition to social, PELNI's TJSL pillars are composed of economic, environmental, and legal governance pillars. These four pillars refer to the SDG's or Sustainable Development Goals pillars initiated by the United Nations and have been adopted by the Ministry of SOEs into the TJSL Program in all SOE companies.

Ferryna added that next year her party will continue to expand the provision of scholarships for outstanding students at other shipping campuses. "The TJSL program that we have compiled also encourages the transformation of the Company that focuses on business integration, development of maritime logistics infrastructure, and implementation of responsible business practices," Ferryna added.
