PELNI Apologizes, Ensures KM Umsini Passengers Can Continue Their Journey
Jakarta, June 10, 2024 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) apologized to all passengers and prospective customers affected by the KM Umsini fire incident, Sunday (9/6). PELNI management ensured that all passengers who were stranded due to this incident could continue their journey at the first opportunity.
Head of PELNI Corporate Secretariat Evan Eryanto said that currently there are still 1,258 KM Umisini passengers waiting for the arrival of the next PELNI ship. "We apologize for this incident which has caused inconvenience and delays for our passengers. They will be departed on KM Labobar to continue their journey to Tanjung Pinang and on KM Dorolonda for Jakarta," said Evan.
Of the total 1,677 passengers of KM Umsini, 419 passengers bound for Surabaya were dispatched using a ship owned by Dharma Lautan Utama, Sunday afternoon.
PELNI has also expressed its gratitude to the joint team from the Harbor Master's Office and Port Authority, Pelindo, Lamtamal TNI AL, police and the Makassar City Fire Department in handling the KM Umsini fire so that it could be handled quickly without any fatalities.
In addition to the Makassar City Fire Department which deployed 13 fire engines, Pelindo also deployed three tugboats. The fire which was known to have occurred at 04.20 WITA was successfully extinguished at 09.03 WITA.

KM Umisini itself is a PELNI passenger ship made in 1985 with a capacity of 2000 pax. The KM Umsini route itself includes Kijang - Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - Bau Bau - Maumere - Larantuka - Lewoleba - Kupang - Lewoleba - Larantuka - Maumere - Bau Bau - Makassar - Surabaya - Tg. Priok - Kijang.
