Makassar, August 2, 2021 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) together with the Makassar City Government inaugurated the use of the Umsini Motorboat as an integrated city-scale isolation location in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Monday (2/8). With this inauguration, KM Umsini is ready to become a floating isolation place for 785 OTG Covid-19 patients and mild symptoms.
The inauguration was marked by cooperation between the Ministry of Transportation, Makassar City, and PELNI on KM Umsini on Monday (2/8). The signing was carried out by the Mayor of Makassar Danny Pomanto, witnessing representatives from PT PELNI (Persero) Director of the Passenger Transport Business of PT PELNI O.M. Sodikin and representatives from the Ministry of Transportation, namely the Head of the Port of Makassar Main Harbormaster Ahmad Wahid.
O.M. Sodikin expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Ministry of Transportation so that KM Umsini could be used to support the Makassar Recover program launched by the Makassar City Government. "This is a form of collaboration between PELNI as a BUMN together with the Central Government and Regional Governments in fighting Covid-19 in Indonesia," he explained.
For information, each bed between independent patients has been given a recovery capsule and is divided into four decks with sex segregation. Meanwhile, for medical personnel, 64 beds have been prepared with separate locations from the self-isolation patient deck. This amount is in accordance with the policy of 50% of the ship's capacity so that the health protocol on board is still implemented.
Several supporting facilities on board have also been prepared to support independent implementation, such as the provision of surveillance cameras (CCTV) at 31 points above KM Umsini, polyclinics, jogging tracks. The "upper deck" as an open space on the ship can also be used by independent patients as a location for exercise or dependent. We hope that the facilities provided can support the acceleration of the healing process that isolates aboard the PELNI ship, "added Sodikin.
KM Umsini is one of 26 ferries operated by PT PELNI and stops in Makassar on its shipping route. The ship with a capacity of 2000 pax has a regular route of Kijang - Tanjuk Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - Maumere - Larantuka - Lewoleba - Kupang (PP). During the Emergency PPKM period, KM Umsini was one of the ships that carried out porttays due to the closure of a number of areas.
PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in sea transportation currently operates 26 passenger ships and stops at 76 ports and serves 1,058 segments.
In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 45 pioneer ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area, where pioneer ships stop at 285 ports with 3,811 segments.
