Mamuju, 4 February 2021 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) together with the National Craft Council and PT Pelindo II participated in the activities of the BUMN For Indonesia Foundation by handing over humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the earthquake in Majene Regency and Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi. The handover of aid was carried out at the West Sulawesi Governor's Office on Thursday (4/2) morning.

The Head of the PT PELNI Corporate Secretariat, Opik Taupik, detailed that the humanitarian assistance provided was in the form of 2 tons of rice, medicine, instant food, and other basic necessities. "We are grateful to the BUMN Foundation for Indonesia for inviting PELNI to be involved in humanitarian action for our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster. As part of the Ministry of BUMN, PELNI is always ready to be part of caring actions led by the BUMN Foundation for Indonesia," he explained.
For information, PT PELNI has helped the process of distributing humanitarian assistance to West Sulawesi and South Kalimantan by dispatching the Egon Motor Ship (KM Egon) from Tg. Perak, Surabaya. For humanitarian assistance in West Sulawesi, KM Egon brought as many as 401 boxes, including 217 boxes of relief items from the PELNI Group. Meanwhile, for humanitarian assistance in South Kalimantan, KM Egon brought 290 coli with 220 of which were relief items from PELNI Group. "PELNI together with its subsidiaries work hand in hand to help people affected by natural disasters so that they can meet the needs of people in disaster areas," explained Opik Taupik.
Apart from KM Egon, PELNI has alerted several passenger ships to continue to bring humanitarian aid to communities in Mamuju and Majene Districts, West Sulawesu and people in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, South Kalimantan. Previously, PELNI had deployed KM Ciremai, KM Nggapulu, and KM Gunung Dempo to bring aid to disaster victims in Mamuju and Majene areas.
As a state-owned company engaged in sea transportation services, PELNI is currently assigned an assignment from the Government through the Ministry of Transportation to carry out Public Service Obligations (PSO). Through this assignment, PELNI hopes to play a role and help the government for post-disaster recovery.
PELNI as a state-owned company engaged in sea transportation has operated 26 passenger ships and stopped at 76 ports.
Apart from passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 45 pioneer ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area where pioneer ships stop at 285 ports with 3,811 sections. PELNI also operates as many as 20 Rede ships. Meanwhile, in the logistics business, PELNI now operates 8 sea toll routes and 1 special route for livestock transportation.
