PELNI CSR Releases 100 Hatchlings in Pulo Aceh, A Concrete Effort to Support Turtle Conservation

Aceh, February 6, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) officially launched its turtle conservation program by releasing 100 hatchlings at Lambaro Beach, Pulo Aceh, Aceh Besar Regency, on Thursday (06/02). This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program aims to increase the population of turtles, which are rapidly declining due to poaching and environmental degradation.

A total of 100 hatchlings were released in a strategic coastal area, and the activity involved 100 participants from the local community. Attending the event were the Branch Manager of PELNI Medan, Romadhoni, the Sub-district Head of Pulo Aceh, Jamaluddin, the Village Head of Pulo Aceh, Tirmizi, PELNI CSR Manager, Septiani Khadijah Thalib, Nusantara volunteers, environmentalist communities, and several local figures from Pulo Aceh.

The Branch Manager of PELNI Medan, Romadhoni, stated that this program is a concrete step by PELNI to preserve coastal ecosystems and support turtle conservation. “PELNI not only focuses on transportation services, but also has a responsibility to protect the environment. Through this conservation program, we hope to contribute to maintaining the turtle population, which is decreasing, and encourage the public to jointly protect marine ecosystems,” said Romadhoni.

PELNI also provided patrol equipment to local communities responsible for protecting turtle habitats from the threats of poaching and ecosystem damage. This initiative is expected to support conservation efforts and raise public awareness about the importance of preserving environmental sustainability.

In addition to releasing the hatchlings and providing patrol equipment, the event also included an environmental conservation education session for local residents and school children around Pulo Aceh. Participants were educated on the importance of maintaining marine ecosystem balance and the steps that can be taken to protect turtle habitats.

This conservation program not only focuses on environmental preservation but also has the potential to bring economic benefits to the surrounding community. With a protected conservation area, the opportunities for eco-tourism development are growing, which could create additional income sources for the local population.

“Besides having a positive impact on the environment, this program also aims to improve the economy of the local community through conservation-based eco-tourism. We hope that the community can participate in protecting and sustainably utilizing natural resources,” added Romadhoni.

With the synergy between the company, community, and local residents, it is hoped that this program can be sustained and provide long-term benefits for the environment and marine ecosystems in Pulo Aceh.

PELNI is committed to continuing to implement CSR programs that benefit the community and surrounding environment, while setting an example as a responsible company that preserves nature and supports sustainable development.

All PELNI CSR programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations and have been adopted by the Ministry of SOEs into the CSR programs across state-owned enterprises (SOEs). In addition to the social pillar, PELNI's CSR is structured around the economic, environmental, and legal governance pillars.
