PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) continues to maximize the operations of passenger ships and pioneer ships during the Idul Adha 1441 H / 2020 period, falls on Friday (31/7).

Jakarta, August 2, 2020 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) continues to maximize the operations of passenger ships and pioneer ships during the Idul Adha 1441 H / 2020 period, falls on Friday (31/7).

PT PELNI (Persero) 's Director of Passenger Transportation Business O.M. Sodikin said that since D-15 ahead of Eid al-Adha 1441 H / 2020 or from 16 July to 31 July, the Company recorded that it had transported 22,261 passengers traveling by passenger ship to several areas it served.

"The highest number of passengers was recorded on D-8 (23/7), namely 2,231 passengers. We predict that it will still increase after Eid al-Adha later," he explained.

Sodikin added that there are at least 10 routes with the highest number of passengers during this year's Eid al-Adha, including Batam - Belawan with 719 customers, Tarakan - Pare-Pare (533), Balikpapan - Larantuka (457), Tual - Ambon (405), Ambon. - Bau-Bau (361), Kumai - Semarang (334), Surabaya - Waingapu (333), Belawan - Batam (302), Balikpapan - Bau-Bau (287), and Sampit - Semarang (286).

During the same period, the Company also recorded that it had transported 9,998 passengers traveling on pioneer ships. "The highest number of pioneer ship users is on the D-4 before Eid al-Adha, specifically 1,082 passengers," he said.

The 10 pioneer ship routes with the highest number of passengers are Amahai - Nila with 386 passengers, Kupang - Mananga (332), Jayapura - Serui (313), Mananga - Kupang (204), Bobong - Kendari (232), Kalianget - Sapeken ( 206), Tua Pejat - Teluk Bayur (179), Kalianget - Kangean (171), Sintete - Tanjung Pinang (170), Saumlaki - Ambon (163).

Meanwhile, PT PELNI Head of Corporate Secretary Yahya Kuncoro said that there was an increasing number of passengers in July 2020. "Compared to June, the number of passengers on passenger ships increased by 435%, from 8,419 passengers in June to 45,043 passengers in July," he explained.

The increase in passengers was also supported by the increase in the number of operating fleets. Of the 26 passenger ships owned, throughout July 2020 PELNI operated 13 passenger ships. Meanwhile, the Company can only operate 6 vessels during June 2020.

Yahya added that the rising number of passengers during the same period also occurred on pioneer ships. "For pioneer ships, there was an increase in passengers by 63.7%. From 10,129 passengers in June 2020 to 16,583 passengers in July 2020," said Yahya.

In carrying out its operational activities, PELNI also continues to comply with and implement all health protocols related to the prevention of Covid-19 on board. "Creating a safe and secure voyage is our commitment. PELNI still limits the number of passengers on board, which is 50% of its capacity. We provide the crew with Personal Protection Equipment and have to use it while on duty. The most important thing is that passengers are required to submit a letter of rapid results/results swab test when traveling with PELNI ships. We continue to improve the implementation of health protocols during operational activities, "Yahya concluded.
