PELNI Maximizes the Implementation of Sea Toll Vessels through Our Home Logistics Center

Jakarta, May 1, 2020 - As one of the operators appointed by the Ministry of Transportation in operating marine toll vessels, PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) - PT PELNI (Persero) continues to maximize the operational implementation of sea toll vessels to ensure the distribution and availability of staple goods and other important items in Indonesia.

The Head of Corporate Secretariat of PT PELNI (Persero), Yahya Kuncoro conveyed that during the First Quarter of 2020, the realization of the cargo that had been transported through sea toll vessels operated by the Company amounted to 1,393 TEUs. Since the COVID -19 period until the end of the year, PELNI projects to be able to carry a total load of 3,859 TEUs and is expected to be more.

"With a fixed and regular shipping schedule, PELNI continues to optimize the implementation of sea highway operations and maximize the operation of 'Rumah Kita' as a logistics center for sea freight cargo ship," said Yahya.

As for the cargo departing the sea toll ship which is operated, PELNI transports basic food items such as sugar, flour, shallots, beef, chicken, broiler eggs, fresh fish, and others. As for essential goods such as rice seeds, corn, and soybeans, fertilizers, cement, LPG 3 (three) kilograms, plywood, construction steel, mild steel.

PELNI also continues to maximize the potential for payloads on sea toll vessels by bringing natural products from the region to be marketed in Java port, so that it is expected to encourage economic growth in the local area. As information that sea toll vessels can carry potential cargo such as food, bulk, coal, logs, and others.

"Some time ago, from Morotai to Surabaya, we brought back a load of tuna and coconut trunks. Likewise in the Tarempa area, Natuna we optimized loads such as fish, squid, and cloves," Yahya continued.
Meanwhile, through the sea tollway program, PELNI also continues to show its role in assisting the Government in reducing disparity in prices of staples and other important materials through the operation of 'Rumah Kita', as a distribution center for sea toll goods and becoming a marketing center for local products to be loaded back to the sea toll ship so that it can be marketed in developed areas. The operation of 'Rumah Kita' is carried out by a subsidiary of PELNI, PT Sarana Bandar Nasional.

Yahya added, The existence of 'Our Home' became a standard reference for the price of traders to sell their goods. More competitive prices at 'Rumah Kita' can help reduce the price of goods in general in Eastern Indonesia and T3P areas. So that its existence becomes an important part of controlling aspects of price disparity.

'Rumah Kita' is the idea of the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of SOEs by synergizing with BUMN, BUMD, and BUMDes to realize the welfare of the community by maintaining the prices of essential and essential goods.

Previously, PELNI was assigned 4 'Rumah Kita' assignments in Indonesia, namely Timika, Manokwari, Morotai, and Saumlaki with the first operation in 2017 in Timika. Along with the success of PELNI in managing 'Rumah Kita' as well as expanding services and accelerating price balance in T3P areas, according to the direction of the Government, PELNI plans to add 'Rumah Kita' outlets in several locations.

"PELNI was assigned to build 'Rumah Kita' in Morotai, Manokwari, Timika, and Saumlaki to reduce price disparity. Currently, in Natuna and Merauke, there is also already available. To expand the availability of stock of goods, we plan to rebuild 'Rumah Kita' in Tahuna, "Lewoleba, Rote, Jaelolo, and Bima," Yahya explained.

In the early stages of the Sea Toll Program being launched, PELNI became the only operator. Along with the development of the sea toll program, there are several operators besides PELNI, both from SOEs and the private sector. In 2019, PELNI obtained 7 assignment routes including Hub area routes in the Bitung, Tahuna, and Aceh regions.

In 2020, PELNI has been assigned to operate as many as 8 sea toll routes, consisting of KM Logistik Nusantara 1 (Tg. Perak - Makassar - Tahuna - Tg. Perak), KM Logistik Nusantara 2 (Tg.
