PELNI Serves 551,383 People During the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year Period

Passenger Numbers Rise, PELNI Serves 551,383 People During the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year Period

Jakarta, January 9, 2024 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) reported serving 551,383 passengers during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year transport period, an 8.7% increase from the projected 507,054 passengers.

PELNI President Director Tri Andayani stated that during the peak season period, which started on December 11, 2024 (D-14) and ended on January 8, 2025 (D+14), PELNI transported 467,143 passengers using passenger ships and 84,240 passengers using pioneer ships.

“PELNI expresses gratitude for the loyalty of our customers who chose PELNI ships as their preferred mode of transportation during the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year period. We also thank all stakeholders at the ports for their support in ensuring smooth travel during the holiday season,” Andayani said.

The peak outbound travel period occurred on December 20, 2024, with 26,614 passengers, while the peak return travel period was on January 5, 2025, with 24,575 passengers.

“We recorded five ports as the most popular destinations for passengers: Ambon, Makassar, Belawan, Batam, and Sorong,” Andayani added.

PELNI divided passenger monitoring into three regions during the Christmas and New Year period: western, central, and eastern Indonesia. The central region recorded the highest passenger traffic with 222,759 passengers (40.4%), followed by the eastern region with 202,358 passengers (36.7%), and the western region with 126,267 passengers (22.9%).

During the recent Christmas and New Year period, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation also provided free tickets for 3,100 passengers, with 3,021 tickets (97%) sold. The realization of the free ticket program for the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year period is as follows:

  2. Manokwari – Sorong: 200 tickets
  3. Sorong – Ambon: 200 tickets
  4. Ende – Kupang: 200 tickets
  5. Bitung – Sorong: 200 tickets
  6. Timika – Tual: 200 tickets
  7. Tanjung Priok – Maumere: 131 tickets
  8. Jayapura – Serui: 199 tickets
  9. Jayapura – Biak: 199 tickets
  10. Makassar – Maumere: 199 tickets
  11. Makassar – Balikpapan: 197 tickets
  12. Jayapura – Nabire: 200 tickets
  13. Ambon – Tual: 200 tickets
