PELNI Ships to Bali Inundated with Foreign Tourists Leaving Labuan Bajo
Jakarta, November 14, 2024 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) ensures that passenger services carrying tourists leaving Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara are running smoothly. After KM Egon, KM Binaiya and KM Tilongkabila are also ready to transport the surge in passengers from Labuan Bajo due to the temporary closure of the local airport.
PELNI Passenger Business Director Nuraini Dessy revealed that the number of passengers from Labuan Bajo has increased significantly due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. KM Binaiya transported 965 people from Labuan Bajo, Wednesday (13/11) night. "The number is five times the usual number of only around 150 to 200 people. Even so, half of those transported are foreign nationals, more than 400 foreign nationals," said Dessy.
To anticipate this surge in passengers, Dessy has given instructions to the ship's crew to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers during the voyage. "We ensure that the service on board is adequate even though there is an increase in the number of passengers from the usual day," added Dessy.
From Labuan Bajo, KM Binaiya will stop in Bima before arriving at Benoa Harbor, Bali on Friday (11/15) morning. Furthermore, another PELNI ship, KM Tilongkabila will arrive in Labuan Bajo on Friday (11/15) tomorrow with the destination of Makassar. The PELNI Ro-Ro passenger ship, KM Egon, had already evacuated tourists from Labuan Bajo, Sunday (11/11).
