Eid Transportation Completed, PELNI Successfully Organizes Free Ticket Program from Ministry of Transportation and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN)
Jakarta, April 16, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has successfully completed the 1446 H Eid Transportation period for 2025, which ran from March 16 to April 16. During this period, PELNI transported a total of 646,554 passengers, with the Batam - Belawan route being the busiest.
PELNI President Director Tri Andayani stated that the number of homecoming travelers increased compared to last year. "The number of passengers traveling with PELNI ships continues to rise. We would also like to thank the Ministry of Transportation and the State-Owned Enterprises for trusting PELNI with the implementation of the free ticket and BUMN free homecoming programs. Alhamdulillah, the entire Eid transportation program went smoothly," Andayani said while closing the PELNI Eid Transportation Post in Jakarta on Wednesday (April 16).
For Eid 2025, PELNI provided a total of 12,750 free tickets for both outbound and return trips. This program was a collaboration between PELNI and the Ministry of Transportation as well as several state-owned companies such as PLN, Pegadaian Balikpapan, PELNI’s TJSL, Angkasa Pura, Telkomsel, Persero Batam, Pelindo, and BSI.
Under the program with the Ministry of Transportation, PELNI allocated 9,250 free tickets for outbound and return travel, with 8,913 tickets issued—achieving 96.4% of the total quota. Meanwhile, through partnerships with various state-owned companies, PELNI allocated 3,500 free tickets, with 3,499 tickets issued—99.97% of the available quota.
"We hope the benefits of both the free ticket and free homecoming programs were truly felt by the public and helped create a pleasant travel experience. On behalf of PELNI’s management, I would also like to express our gratitude to port authorities, the military (TNI), the police (Polri), local governments, and other stakeholders for supporting smooth PELNI operations during the 2025 Eid travel period," Andayani added.
During the 2025 Eid transportation period, the peak of outbound travel occurred on March 28 (three days before Eid) with 27,741 passengers, out of a total of 315,128 who traveled from March 16 to April 1, 2025. Meanwhile, 331,426 passengers traveled with PELNI ships during the return period (April 2–16), with the peak on April 12 (11 days after Eid).
The busiest routes during the 2025 Eid period were as follows:
Batam – Medan (25,692 passengers)
Medan – Batam (21,592)
Balikpapan – Surabaya (14,195)
Kumai – Semarang (13,463)
Makassar – Surabaya (11,856)
The five busiest departure ports were:
Makassar (49,798 passengers)
Balikpapan (39,228)
Batam (33,199)
Ambon (32,999)
Baubau (31,454)
