Jakarta, March 23, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) reported a significant increase in homecoming travelers on March 22, 2025, or H-9. On March 21, 2025, a total of 16,639 passengers traveled with PELNI ships, but this number rose significantly to 23,348 passengers on March 22, 2025.
PELNI’s Corporate Secretary, Evan Eryanto, believes that the Government’s Work from Anywhere (WFA) policy, which takes effect on March 24, 2025, contributed to the early surge of homecoming travelers. "Since the WFA policy will be in effect starting Monday (March 24), it is highly likely that people took advantage of this by traveling earlier on Saturday (March 22), which was H-9," said Evan.
Evan added that in 2024, the number of homecoming travelers reaching 23,000 only occurred on H-6, with the peak homecoming rush happening on H-5, reaching 26,000 travelers. However, for 2025, the number of travelers exceeding 20,000 has already been recorded on H-9, coinciding with the upcoming implementation of the WFA policy on March 24, 2025.
"When compared, the number of travelers on H-9 this year has surged by 180% compared to H-9 in 2024, which recorded 13,022 travelers. We predict that the number of daily travelers exceeding 20,000 people will continue for the next five days," Evan added.
As of March 23, 2025, a total of 237,387 passengers have traveled with PELNI ships since H-15 (March 16, 2025). This number has already reached 78% of the 2024 total homecoming count, which recorded 305,501 passengers from H-15 until Eid day.
The busiest homecoming routes using PELNI ships are:

Kumai - Semarang: 9,310 passengers
