Jakarta, August 1, 2024 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) held a national talkshow entitled "PELNI's Opportunities and Challenges: Answering Customer Needs and Wants in the Social Media Era". The event, which was attended by the Indonesian Minister of Transportation, was held at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).
To deepen the discussion theme, a number of figures were presented as speakers, including the Director General of Sea Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Capt. Antoni Arif Priadi, Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Mohamad Hekal, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Transportation Society Djoko Setijowarno, and of course the President Director of PELNI Tri Andayani. The event, which lasted for approximately 150 minutes, was hosted by journalist and CNN Indonesia TV newsreader Rivana Pratiwi.
While providing the material, Tri Andayani or familiarly called Anda, the President Director of PELNI revealed a number of the main challenges faced by PELNI. The high number of passengers during holidays such as Eid, Christmas and New Year gave rise to a policy of non-seat passengers so that the excess ship capacity put aside passenger comfort.
"Since 2008 or 16 years ago, the number of PELNI ships has not increased, stopping at 26 passenger ships. This makes us have no choice but to comply with demands in the field to transport above installed capacity, of course after obtaining permission from the regulator," said Anda.
Another challenge is the increasingly old PELNI ship fleet. When the talk show was held, two PELNI ships that were 39 years old, namely KM Umsini and KM Kelimutu, and KM Lawit which was 38 years old. The three will be replaced with three new ships that will be purchased using PMN funds in 2024.
"Alhamdulillah, with the support of the Government and the DPR, PELNI has obtained PMN funds of IDR 1.5 trillion for the down payment for the purchase of three new ships. Even so, the arrival of three new ships as replacements does not increase the PELNI fleet, it remains at 26 passenger ships, because the three old ships will no longer be used," Anda added.
You also added that in the current era of social media, the flow of information such as complaints, reports and criticisms can be easily obtained through social media. PELNI itself has provided an official channel, the PELNI 162 Contact Center, to listen to and follow up on reports and complaints from PELNI ship customers.
"In the current era of social media, the public can easily disseminate information about the services and facilities they experience during the voyage. For that, we must be responsive in responding to incoming complaints to ensure that we can provide excellent service," Anda emphasized.
From the regulator's side, Director General of Sea Transportation Capt. Antoni conveyed several points such as the vision of the elected president and vice president's government for 2024-2029 with the Asta Cita Program; strategic issues of Indonesian transportation for 2025-2029; and the policy direction of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation in 2025-2029.
In addition to being responded to by representatives of members of the DPR and the Indonesian Transportation Society, several panelists from eastern Indonesia were also present, including member of the Maluku Provincial DPRD Anos Yeremias, transportation observer from Pattimura University Ambon Prof. Marcus Tukan, and journalist from the KOMPAS Daily for the Nusa Tenggara region Frans Patti Herin.
In addition to being attended by fellow national journalists in person, dozens of journalists from various regions also attended online together with various PELNI stakeholders at the port. This event was also attended by a number of shipping schools/academies in Indonesia. The Chancellor of ITL Trisakti Jakarta Dr. Yuliatini was among those who attended in person with her students.
PELNI Corporate Secretary Evan Eryanto hopes that this talk show activity can provide comprehensive information to stakeholders in Jakarta and all PELNI ship operational areas regarding the performance and transformation that has been carried out by the Company.
"We always listen to the needs and desires of our customers. With all the limitations that exist, we continue to improve facilities and services in order to provide better service and experience for our customers," said Evan.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi who was present to close the event, said that regulators and legislators will continue to support PELNI to provide services to the community. "I appreciate the 72nd Anniversary of PELNI which has built connectivity, especially in eastern Indonesia, which is an indicator of the government's presence. Continue to innovate and work, so that PELNI will be even more successful," said Budi Karya.
