High Demand, Sumenep Regency Government's Free Homecoming Transported by Additional Ships and Buses
Surabaya, April 5, 2024 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) appreciates the high interest of the public who want to participate in the free homecoming organized by the Sumenep Regency Government. Considering the limited capacity of KM Sabuk Nusantara 92 which will transport free homecoming travelers, the Sumenep Regency Government responded by providing additional free homecoming transportation using ships owned by the Class 1 Tanjung Perak Surabaya Navigation District and DAMRI buses.
Head of the Surabaya PELNI Branch Marthin Heryanto said that the decision to add free homecoming transportation options was taken by the Sumenep Regency Government after seeing for themselves the high interest of the public who wanted to participate in the free homecoming program. Hundreds of prospective homecoming travelers to the Masalembo area have visited the PELNI counter at the Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, Thursday (4/4) yesterday.
"The number of people interested reached 600 people, but the capacity of KM Sabuk Nusantara could only accommodate half of them according to safety regulations. Alhamdulillah, after discussing and seeing for themselves the high interest of the public, the Sumenep Regency Government decided to add a free homecoming option with KN Bimasakti Utama and DAMRI Bus," explained Marthin.
The free homecoming program held by the Sumenep Regency Government using KM Sabuk Nusantara 92 for departure on Thursday (4/4) yesterday accommodated a total of 380 homecoming travelers. However, because there were still many interested travelers who did not have tickets, the Sumenep Regency Government sent off an additional 224 homecoming travelers with KN Bimasakti Utama and 163 travelers using DAMRI buses.
Marthin expressed his gratitude to the Sumenep Regency Government for quickly responding to the needs of the homecoming travelers. "The quota with KM Sabuk Nusantara 92 itself was immediately filled within an hour since registration opened. The ship itself departed on the same day after Maghrib," added Marthin.
KM Sabuk Nusantara 92 is one of 30 pioneer ships owned by the Ministry of Transportation operated by PELNI in 2024. This number is reduced from 42 routes in 2023.
The route of KM Sabuk Nusantara 92 includes Surabaya - Masalembo - Keramaian - Masalembo - Kalianget - Kangean - Sapeken - Pagerungan Besar - Sapeken - Tanjung Wangi (PP).
