Isoter in Makassar Ends, PELNI Immediately Operates KM Umsini

PELNI ensures the location of the isoter and facilities have been checked in accordance with the applicable prokes standards

Jakarta, 20 September 2021 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) will soon operate the Umsini Motor Ship (KM Umsini) to sail its regular shipping routes. Operations were carried out again after the use of KM Umsini as an integrated floating isolation location by the Makassar City Government ended as of Monday (20/9).

KM Umsini is scheduled to return to serve passengers on September 25 with an early departure from Makassar Port. This ship will sail the route Makassar - Maumere - Larantuka - Kupang - Larantuka - Maumere - Makassar - Surabaya - Tanjung Priok - Batam.

Director of Passenger Transport Business PT PELNI O.M. Sodikin said that seeing the development of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia which had begun to be controlled, the use of PELNI ships as isoter locations was gradually ending. "Before returning to operation, PELNI ensures that all ships used as isoters and their facilities are cleaned with disinfectants. In addition, the health of the crew on duty will also be checked according to the applicable prokes standards," he said.

Sodikin added that the PELNI ship will operate after receiving a certificate from the Port Health Office (KKP) stating that the ship is fit to carry passengers again. "This is expected to increase customer confidence again to sail with PELNI ships," he added.

In addition to KM Umsini, KM Sirimau which was used as an isoter location in Sorong City and KM Lawit in Lampung City has also ended. As long as they are used as isoter locations, the three ships have received as many as 312 Covid-19 patients without symptoms or with mild symptoms. Sodikin detailed, as many as 275 patients had been accommodated at the KM Umsini isoter, 18 patients at KM Lawit and 19 patients at KM Sirimau. "The use of the PELNI isoter ship is still remaining in three other areas, namely KM Bukit Raya in Belawan, KM Tatamailau in Bitung, and KM Tidar in Jayapura," said Sodikin.

For additional information, KM Lawit will conduct an annual docking process in Jakarta until next October. "PELNI continues to strive to provide safe and comfortable shipping for all customers. We ensure that all operating ships have been declared eligible to travel," he explained.
