Semester 1-2020, PELNI Goods Cargo Increases 300 percent

PELNI recorded an increase in the volume of container cargo transported by cargo ships during Semester 1 of 2020 to almost 300 percent over the same period from the previous year.

Jakarta, 3 July 2020 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) - PELNI recorded an increase in the volume of container cargo transported by cargo ships during Semester 1 of 2020 to almost 300 percent over the same period from the previous year.

PT PELNI (Persero) 's Chief Corporate Secretary, Yahya Kuncoro said that in Semester 1-2020, the cargo ship had carried 2,869 TEUs. "Compared to Semester 1-2019, performance on cargo ships rose by almost 300 percent or up from 941 TEU in Semester 1-2019 to 2,869 TEU in Semester 1-2020," he said.

For information, based on the assignments given by the Ministry of Transportation, PELNI received 8 assignment routes in the implementation of transportation of goods in 2020.

Of the 8 routes, there are 3 congested routes, namely the T-10 route operated by KM Logistik Nusantara 6 (Tg. Perak - Tidore - Galela - Buli - Maba - Weda - Tg. Perak), T-15 route operated by KM Logistik Nusantara 3 (Tg. Perak - Makassar - Jailolo - Morotai (Daruba) - Tg. Perak), as well as the H-1 route operated by KM Logistik Nusantara 1 (Tg. Perak - Makassar - Tahuna - Tg. Perak)

"Three routes carry a total load of 1,819 TEUs, or contribute 63.40% of the total load," Yahya said.

5 other routes still have the potential to add loads, such as the T-5 route (Bitung - Tahuna - Tagulandang / ulu siau - Lirung / Melangoane - Miangas - Marore - Tahuna - Bitung), T-13 (Tg. Perak - Rote - Sabu (Biu) - Tg. Perak), T-14 (Tg. Perak - Lembata (Lewoleba) - Tabilota / Larantuka - Tg. Perak), T-3 (Tg. Priok - Jemaja / Letung - Tarempa - Midai - Selatlampa - Serasan - Tg. Priok), as well as the T-18 route (Tg. Perak - Badas - Bima - Merauke (Kelapa Lima) - Bima - Tg. Perak).

In addition, 26 passenger ships belonging to PELNI also have space capable of transporting goods (2 in 1). In addition, there are two ships that can carry passengers, goods or vehicles or 3 in 1.

Yahya explained, vehicle transportation in semester 1-2020 experienced an increase compared to semester 1-2019, although in the last 3 months there was a decrease in load. "In this semester there was a 4% increase compared to semester 1-2019, namely from 3,536 units to 3,681 units," he explained.

The same thing happened with REDPACK payloads. PELNI's end-to-end logistics services increased 110% compared to semester 1-2019, from 74,569 kg / m3 to 156,884 kg / m3 in semester 1-2020.

Yahya also said that the Company remained optimistic in carrying out operational activities, especially amid the implementation of a new normal life phase. "Management hopes that by starting the opening of several ports as access to and leaving the community and cargo can improve the Company's performance in the coming Semester, such as by opening up opportunities for cooperation with various SOEs, private companies and others, agencies," concluded Yahya.
