No. : 03.03/06/PR/III/2023
Jakarta, March 3, 2023 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT Pelni (Persero) increases the inspection of passenger luggage when boarding the ship. This policy was carried out to improve the safety and comfort of shipping as well as preparation for the 2023 Lebaran transportation.
Head of Secretariat of the Company PT Pelni Opik Taupik revealed, one of the results was the findings of alcoholic drinks from passenger luggage that were about to rise to KM Labobar from Bitung Port, North Sulawesi, Sunday (26/2).
"This finding is thanks to the vigilance of security forces on a ship that succeeded in detecting passenger luggage that was felt to be odd or required further inspection. Management appreciated the actions that had been taken and supported the policy to tighten the supervision of passenger luggage on the ship," said Opik.
During the incident, ship security officers found a large suitcase containing a traditional alcoholic beverage bottle weighing 50 liters. Officers immediately handed over the owner of the goods along with the evidence to the authorities in the Bitung Port area.
In addition to alcoholic drinks, Pelni ship passengers are also prohibited from carrying firearms or sharp weapons, animals, explosives, and stinging foods.
In addition to successfully thwarting the innate forbidden, security officers on the same ship also managed to find passengers who were not brawned trying to ride on the ship when KM Labobar stopped at the Port of Ternate, North Maluku.
"To improve the security of the ship, we will strengthen coordination with the port manager to tighten the supervision of the port area so that it can close the 'rat road'. This illegal access makes passengers without tickets or hawkers ride on the ship," Opik added.
