Jakarta, September 16, 2022 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) apologizes for the fire incident that occurred at KM Sabuk Nusantara 91 at Masalembu Port, Sumenep, East Java, Friday (16/9). One person died and three people received treatment as a result of the incident.
Head of the Corporate Secretariat of PT PELNI Opik Taupik expressed his deep condolences for the loss of life. "Representing the Company, we express our deep regret and condolences to the families of the victims in this incident. We will fully be responsible for delivering the bodies of the victims to the hands of their families. For victims who receive treatment, we will bear all the costs," said Opik. .
The victim who died was known to be Novi Albert Lombogian (56 years), a resident of West Perak, Surabaya and registered as a minimarket guard on KM Sanus 91. Meanwhile, three other victims have received treatment at the nearest health facility and did not suffer serious injuries.
The fire at KM Sanus 91 was first discovered at 07.01 local time with the center of the incident located on the middle Deck 1 or the passenger area. "The cause of the fire is currently still under investigation by the authorities. Currently, we will focus on victims and ship operations so that services can return to normal as soon as possible," added Opik.
Opik also appreciated the crew of the KM Sanus 91 ship who was able to quickly extinguish the fire center with adequate extinguishing equipment on board. As per emergency handling standards, the crew on board quickly extinguished the center of the fire. As with safety standards, every pioneer ship and passenger ship belonging to PELNI is equipped with fire-fighting equipment, both anti-fire clothes and light extinguishers (APAR).
"For now, we are still confirming the condition of Sanus 91 whether it can continue its journey or not. However, passenger service in the Masalembu area and its surroundings has been prepared by a replacement ship. For certainty, we will inform you soon."
Sabuk Nusantara is a pioneering fleet owned by the Government operated by PT PELNI. KM Sanus 91 itself sails the routes of Surabaya, Masalembu, Karamaian, Masalembu, Kalianget, Sapudi, Kangean, Sapeken, Pagerungan Besar, Sapeken, Tanjung Wangi (PP). At the time of the incident, the ship arrived at Masalembu Harbor (16/9) after departing from Surabaya (15/9) and was going to Karamaian Island which is still in Sumenep Regency. The ship departed from Surabaya with 97 passengers and 20 of them were onward passengers to Karamaian Island.
PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in sea transportation currently operates 26 passenger ships and stops at 76 ports and serves 1,058 segments.
In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 44 pioneer ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in disadvantaged, remote, outermost and border areas (3TP) where Pioneer Ships stop at 281 ports with a total of 3,695 segments. PELNI also operates 16 Rede Vessels. For logistics business services, currently PELNI operates 10 routes of the Sea Toll Road as well as one special route for livestock transportation.*
