Jakarta, 9 January 2023 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) was recorded as transporting 431,008 customers during the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023 transportation periods from 11 December 2022 to 8 January 2023. This number jumped 190 percent compared to the previous period of 226,935 customer.
PT PELNI Head of Corporate Secretariat Opik Taupik said that during the Nataru period all PELNI ships, totaling 26 fleets, were operating to serve customers during the Nataru period. "The peak of travel before Christmas was recorded on 21 December 2022 with 24,328 customers and after New Year's on 7 January 2023 with 21,203 customers," explained Opik.
The company noted that the five busiest sections include Batam Island - Belawan which reached 21,583 customers and Belawan - Batam Island which reached 14,897 customers. The other three solid segments are Makassar - Bau-Bau (6,065), Bau-Bau - Makassar (5,370), and Jayapura - Biak (4,881).
For the busiest port of departure, PELNI recorded five regions, namely Makassar with 30,751 customers. Followed by Batam Island (25,470), Jayapura (22,746), Ambon (20,580) and Surabaya (19,678).
The company also divides three monitoring areas, namely western, central and eastern Indonesia in serving Nataru. During this period, the central region was recorded as the highest with a subscriber distribution of 169,540 customers or 39.3 percent. Meanwhile, for the eastern region, there were 150,269 subscribers (34.9%) and for the western region, there were 111,199 subscribers (25.8%).
"PELNI would like to thank all customers who have traveled with PELNI ships in the Nataru period this year. As well as to all stakeholders in the port sector who have jointly succeeded in making Nataru transportation with PELNI ships," added Opik.
PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in shipping services currently operates 26 Passenger Ships serving 1,058 sections and visiting 76 ports.
Apart from passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 42 Pioneer Ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area, where Pioneer Ships stop at 272 ports with a total of 3,495 sections. PELNI also operates as many as 16 Rede Ships. For logistics business services, currently PELNI operates 10 Sea Highway routes and 1 special route for Livestock Vessels.
