Makassar, 5 June 2022 - - Ministry of Transportation cq. The Directorate General of Sea Transportation through the Directorate of Traffic and Sea Transportation has assigned PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) to add additional routes to the Pangkajene and Islands region.
Plt. The Director General of Sea Transportation, Arif Toha said that this was done to provide services to the community and grow the economic sector in the archipelago, especially in the 3TP area (left behind, remote, outermost and border).
Meanwhile, PT PELNI (Persero) informed that starting June 5, 2022, KM Sabuk Nusantara 85 or KM Sanus 85 will sail additional routes to the Pangkajene and Islands region. The maiden voyage of KM Sanus 85 departed from Soekarno Hatta Port, Makassar, Sunday (5/6).
Director of the Passenger Transport Business of PT PELNI Yahya Kuncoro said that the additional KM Sanus 85 route was based on a request from the Regent of Pangkajene and Islands to the Minister of Transportation.
"This request was answered by the Ministry of Transportation by adding an additional route KM Sanus 85, which previously only stopped 15 ports in one trip. It is hoped that the presence of KM Sanus 85 can be well received by the community and provide safe shipping and encourage the local economy," said Yahya.
KM Sanus 85 which originally sailed the Makassar - Selayar - Jinato - Kayuadi - Jampea - Bonerate - Kalatoa (PP) route, starting 5 June 2022, the route will be Makassar - Macini Baji - Dewakang Lampo - Kalukalukuang - Pammantawang P. - Kalukalukuang - Dewakang Lampo - Maccini Baji - Makassar - Selayar - Jinato - Kayuadi - Jampea - Bonerate - Kalatoa (PP).
In his letter, the Regent of Pangkajene and Islands said that sea transportation services in his area were only served by one pioneer ship, KM Sanus 66, with an arrival waiting time of 10 days.
"The activities of the people of Pangkajene and the Archipelago are very dependent on sea transportation with limited options. For this reason, the presence of KM Sanus 85 which is operated by PELNI is expected to answer the community's needs for regular and scheduled transportation fleets. And above all, prioritize the safety of its passengers," added Yahya.
Yahya emphasized that apart from making shipping security and safety a priority, PT PELNI will also optimize the schedule for KM Sanus 66 and KM Sanus 85. "With the presence of these two ships, we will try to reduce the waiting time for ships significantly from 10 days to once a week. Hopefully This can increase the economic activity of the local community," said Yahya.
The pioneer ship itself is a ship owned by the Ministry of Transportation which has been entrusted to be operated by PT PELNI since 2015. Currently, PT PELNI manages 44 pioneer ships spread in various underdeveloped, remote, outermost and border areas or 3TPs. Pioneer ship services in the 3TP area are proof of the state's presence in providing reliable and affordable transportation facilities.
PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in sea transportation currently operates 26 passenger ships and stops at 76 ports and serves 1,058 segments.
In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 44 pioneer ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in disadvantaged, remote, outermost and border areas (3TP) where Pioneer Ships stop at 281 ports with a total of 3,695 segments.
