Jakarta, 20 February 2023 -- PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) deployed two pilot ships to support religious activities in Serui City and Biak Numfor Regency. In these two areas, the V Plenary Session of the GPDI Papua Regional Conference will be held in Serui City on 21-22 February 2023 and the Convent of Servants of the Word Region III Biak Numfor and Supiori in Biak Numfor Regency on 20-25 February 2023.
PT PELNI's Head of Corporate Secretariat Opik Taupik said that hundreds of participants in the two events could use KM Belt Nusantara 81 and KM Belt Nusantara 63. For the smooth mobilization of participants, with the permission of the Ministry of Transportation, PT PELNI will make temporary route adjustments.
"The government, in this case the Ministry of Transportation, gave an assignment to PELNI as a pioneer ship operator to support the smoothness and success of religious activities in the Serui and Biak regions. Hopefully, through this assignment, the people of Papua will increasingly feel the role of pioneer ships in supporting community activities in the region," he said.
PT PELNI has departed KM Belt Nusantara 81 from Jayapura Harbor on Sunday (19/2) with as many as 450 participants, and will arrive at Serui Port on Tuesday (21/2). As for KM Belt Nusantara 63, it departed from the Port of Biak on Monday (20/2) with as many as 200 participants, and will arrive at the Port of Bromsi Island on Monday (20/2).
"The route adjustment was made to ensure that all participants in the religious activity arrived on time at Serui Port and Bromsi Island Port. These two ships will also bring the participants home to their home areas after the event is over," added Opik.
For KM Belt Nusantara 81, from the original stopover in Jayapura - Depapre - Kaipuri - Dawai - Serui - Waren - Nabire - Wasior - Manokwari - Biak - Manokwari - Wasior - Nabire - Waren - Serui - Dawai - Kaipuri - Depapre - Jayapura is temporarily changed to be shorter became Jayapura - Depapre - Kaipuri - Dawai - Serui - Waren - Nabire - Wasior - Jayapura - Serui - Jayapura.
Meanwhile for KM Belt Nusantara 63 from the initial route Biak - Wundi Island - Mbromsi Island - Biak - Korido and so on it was changed without stopping at Wundi Island.
After the religious activity ends, the two pioneer ships will return to their original routes and are ready to serve the people of Papua again. "As pioneer ship operators we are committed to continuing to support inter-island connectivity, especially the 3TP area through this assignment," concluded Opik.
PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in shipping services currently operates 26 Passenger Ships serving 1,058 sections and visiting 76 ports.
Apart from passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 42 Pioneer Ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area, where Pioneer Ships stop at 273 ports with a total of 3,495 sections. PELNI also operates as many as 16 Rede Ships. For logistics business services, currently PELNI operates 10 Sea Highway routes and 1 special route for Livestock Vessels.
