Bima, 23 December 2022 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has once again shown concern for environmental sustainability in the City of Bima. PT PELNI and the Municipal Government of Bima inaugurated the Ecosystem Conservation-Based Economic Empowerment Program in Asakota, Bima City, Friday (23/12).

This environment-based program also cooperates with the Kabuan Dana Rasa Foundation and will focus on restoring the ecosystem in Puncak So Wawo Mpori, East Jati Baru Village, Asakota District, Bima City. The inauguration was carried out directly by the Director of Finance and Risk Management of PT PELNI Anik Hidayati and Mayor of Bima HM Lutfi.

In his remarks, Anik stated that the entire PT PELNI TJSL Program supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) compiled by the United Nations, especially for environmental interests.

"Through this forest ecosystem restoration program, we want to involve the community and communities in the city of Bima to pay attention to environmental sustainability that will impact future generations. For this reason, PT PELNI presents ecosystem restoration through economically valuable plants," said Anik.

Candlenut was chosen as an economic plant that will be the focus of PT PELNI's TJSL Ecosystem Conservation-Based Economic Empowerment Program in Asakota. Apart from having a relatively high market value, the candlenut plant also has a fairly good absorption capacity of carbon dioxide or CO2. So that apart from overcoming deforested land, PT PELNI's TJSL Program is also expected to be able to improve air quality in the City of Bima.

"The city of Bima was recorded as experiencing flooding despite the low intensity of rain. This condition is thought to be due to land conversion and road opening. For this program, we, together with the local community and community, are working together to manage a 7 hectare land to be planted with more than 10,000 candlenut trees. For For sustainability, we also conduct education to community groups who are very supportive of this program," added Anik.

PT PELNI's TJSL in practice adopts the pillars set by the SDGs, which cover the social, economic, environmental and governance law fields. Since 2017, PT PELNI has implemented six themes of the TJSL movement with a total of 10 programs, including the Coral Reef Revitalization Program in four regions namely Sepa Island, Thousand Islands (2017), Bangka Island North Sulawesi (2018), Jikomalomo Beach, Ternate (2019 ), and Bangsring Beach, Banyuwangi (2020).

TJSL PT PELNI implements the Waste Management House Program in Bima City (2019) and Bau Bau City (2021) as well as the Mangrove Planting Program in 2021 on Harapan Island, Seribu Islands. In 2022, PT PELNI presents the Reading Gardens Program on Banda Neira Island and the Fishermen's Village Program in 2022 in Larantuka City.
