PELNI Predicts Peak Holiday Season Travel Today, Passengers Urged to Check Ticket Availability
Jakarta, December 19, 2024* — PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) predicts that the peak of the holiday season travel for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 with PELNI ships will occur today, Thursday (19/12). As of 9:00 AM WIB, a total of 23,875 passengers have been recorded traveling with PELNI ships on December 19, 2024.
President Director of PT PELNI (Persero) Tri Andayani stated that, as projected earlier, the peak of holiday season travel is expected to occur on December 19, 2024, based on the realization of peak travel during last year's holiday season. The number of passengers today is expected to surpass the projected peak of 25,401 passengers.
"Data as of this morning is expected to continue growing until tonight, but we remain confident that the peak of travel will take place today," Andayani said.
Meanwhile, on December 17, 2024, 24,169 people traveled using PELNI ships. The total number of passengers traveling with PELNI from December 11 to 18, 2024, reached 150,575 people.
This number includes 126,897 passengers using passenger ships and 23,678 using pioneer ships. Andayani attributed the increase in passengers this year compared to the projected peak travel numbers to the expanded range of ticket sales channels available this year.
"In addition to the PELNI Mobile application, we’ve significantly increased ticket sales channels this year, particularly through banking apps and ticket sales partners," Andayani explained.
Currently, PELNI tickets can be purchased via banking applications such as the Lifestyle feature on BCA Mobile, Sukha Livin Mandiri, and BNI Agen46, as well as through Indomaret networks, OMI Indomaret partners, Alfamart and Alfamidi networks, ATA Tour, Fastpay, easybook.com, via.com, MMBC, Darmawisata Indonesia, Versa, and Topindo.
For payments, PELNI has partnered with Bank BTN, BRIVA, BNI Virtual Account, Permata Bank, Mandiri Virtual Account, Indomaret and OMI Indomaret partners, Alfamart and Alfamidi networks, iSaku, Finpay, and Fastpay.
Meanwhile, Arya Sinulingga, Special Staff to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises for Strategic Communication and Public Relations, emphasized the critical role of PELNI ships for communities relying on sea transportation, especially those in the eastern Indonesian islands.
"I am fully aware that PELNI is a lifeline for island communities, so I urge PELNI to provide the best service possible so that our friends in eastern Indonesia can celebrate Christmas at home on time," Arya said.
