PELNI Ready to Serve Holiday Travelers During Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025
Jakarta, December 5, 2024 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) is prepared to serve passengers and holiday travelers during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holiday period. PELNI's transportation period for this season will run from December 11, 2024, to January 8, 2025.
Director of Passenger Transport Business at PT PELNI (Persero), Nuraini Dessy W, stated that under the coordination of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, PELNI is committed to providing safe and excellent transportation services for the holiday season. "All PELNI ships have undergone annual maintenance and inspections before the holiday period starts on December 11. We will continue coordinating with all stakeholders at the ports to ensure smooth embarkation and disembarkation processes," said Dessy.
For the 2024/2025 holiday season, PELNI is operating 25 passenger ships and 30 pioneer ships. The total capacity for the 25 passenger ships is 48,323 seats, while the 30 pioneer ships can accommodate 11,889 seats. Dessy added that the combined capacity of the passenger and pioneer ships reaches 60,212 seats for this holiday season.
"From December 11 to January 8, we are providing a total of 547,549 tickets. We predict the peak outbound travel period will occur on December 19, while the peak return travel will be on January 6," Dessy explained.
Dessy predicted that the busiest departure ports would be in Makassar and Ambon, with an estimated passenger count between 31,000 and 39,000. Other busy departure ports include Batam, Jayapura, and Belawan. Meanwhile, the five busiest arrival ports are expected to be Makassar, Ambon, Batam, Belawan, and Surabaya.
On the other hand, PELNI's Director of Fleet and Engineering, Robert MP Sinaga, revealed that the number of passengers served during the 2024/2025 holiday period will experience an adjustment. "For this year's holiday season, passenger numbers will be approximately 9% lower than last year due to a reduction in the fleet," said Robert.
The reduction includes the assignment of only 30 pioneer ships in 2024 compared to 42 in 2023. Additionally, the KM Umsini ship is still under repair following an incident in Makassar earlier this year. As a result, the total number of passengers transported by PELNI ships during this holiday season is projected to be 507,053, down from 558,679 in 2023.
Furthermore, all ships have undergone safety and navigation equipment inspections. PELNI has also equipped its fleet with additional safety tools, such as the Marine Evacuation System and Voyage Data Recorder.
For passenger safety, all PELNI passenger ships are equipped with various safety devices, including life jackets, lifeboats, and inflatable rafts. Across its fleet, PELNI provides a total of 86,924 life jackets, 2,316 life rafts with a total capacity of 58,300 people, and 300 lifeboats with a total capacity of 29,030 people.
PELNI customers or prospective passengers can utilize digital channels such as the PELNI Mobile app or the official PELNI website. Tickets are also available through banking apps such as the Lifestyle feature on BCA Mobile, Sukha on Livin’ by Mandiri, and BNI Agen46, as well as networks like Indomaret and Alfamart, and various travel platforms like ATA Tour, Fastpay, Easybook.com, Via.com, MMBC, Darmawisata Indonesia, Versa, and Topindo.
For payments, PELNI collaborates with BTN Bank, BRIVA, BNI Virtual Account, Permata Bank, Mandiri Virtual Account, Indomaret and its partners, Alfamart and Alfamidi, iSaku, Finpay, and Fastpay.
PELNI, a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in shipping services, currently operates 26 passenger ships serving 482 routes with 1,297 itineraries, stopping at 72 ports.
In addition to passenger services, PELNI also operates 42 pioneer ship routes, providing access for mobility in remote, underdeveloped, and border areas (3TP). These ships serve 236 ports with a total of 522 routes. PELNI also manages 16 Rede ships. For logistics services, PELNI operates 11 sea toll routes and one specific route for livestock transport ships.
