PELNI Transports 56 Containers of Rice to 3TP Areas

A total of 56 containers of superior rice commodities from Merauke were transported to the Papua and West Papua regions

Jakarta, 15 June 2021 -- KM Logistik Nusantara 2, one of nine sea toll routes operated by PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) broke the record for the most cargo on its way on its sixth voyage. A total of 56 containers of superior rice commodities from Merauke were transported to Papua and West Papua, on Friday (28/5).

PT PELNI's Sea Toll and Goods Transportation Business Director Yahya Kuncoro said that T-19 was launched in early 2021 by the Ministry of Transportation to address the issue of rice distribution for the Papua and West Papua regions. Merauke, which is one of the regions that donates rice in the Papua region, is expected to be able to reduce the disparity in rice prices in the Papua and West Papua regions.

“The government has assigned PELNI to ensure that the flow of logistics distribution in Papua and West Papua is more efficient so that prices for basic necessities can be stable, including rice. Prior to the T-19, rice was usually sent from Surabaya or Manado to Papua, with the hope that the T-19 will be able to boost the economy of farmers in Merauke," he said.

Company data shows that KM Logistik Nusantara 2 has transported 174 containers of rice from Merauke throughout 2021. In the first voyage, namely on January 3, 2021, KM Lognus 2 transported 24 containers of rice. "Since T-19 was opened, cargoes to the Papua and West Papua regions have continued to show improvement and peaked in this sixth voyage," Yahya explained.

As for the return cargo, throughout 2021 the Lognus 2 KM has transported 58 containers, with the majority containing chipped stone, stone ash and sand, which are superior commodities from the Ministry of Finance. "We continue to invite local governments to maximize regional superior commodities to increase sea toll loads, so that logistics distribution and distribution will be more efficient for the community throughout the archipelago," said Yahya.

The company also invites business actors to continue to use marine toll vessels to expand market share. “Hopefully the presence of KM Lognus 2 can be utilized as much as possible by business actors. This ship can load 105 containers each time, a capacity large enough to load all kinds of basic needs needed in the cities it passes through,” said Yahya.

For information, until now PT PELNI operates nine sea toll routes, namely:

1. Route H-1 is navigable by KM Logistik Nusantara 1 with route Tg. Perak - Makassar - Tahuna - Tg. Silver.
2. The T-19 route is navigable by KM Logistik Nusantara 2 with the route Merauke - Kokas - Sorong - Biak/Korido - Jayapura/Depapre - Sorong - Merauke.

3. The T-15 route is navigable by KM Logistik Nusantara 3 with the Tg. Perak - Makassar - Jailolo - Morotai - Tg. Silver.

4. The T-3 route is navigable by KM Logistik Nusantara 4 with the Tg. Priok - Deer - Tarempa - Pulau Laut - Strait of Lampa - Subi - Serasan - Midai - Tg. Priok

5. The T-10 route is navigable by KM Logistik Nusantara 5 with the Tg. Silver - Tidore - Morotai - Galela - Maba/Buli - Vedas - Tg. Silver

6. The T-5 route is navigable by KM Kendhaga Nusantara 1 with the route Bitung - Ulusiau/Tagulandang - Tahuna - Lirung/Melanguane - Miangas - Marore - Tahuna - Ulusiau/Tagulandang - Bitung

7. The T-14 route is navigable by KM Kendhaga Nusantara 7 with the route Maumere - Lewoleba - Larantuka - Maumere

8. The T-13 route is navigable by KM Kendhaga Nusantara 11 with the route Kupang - Rote - Sabu - Waingapu - Kupang

9. The T-18 route is navigable by KM Kendhaga Nusantara 8 with the Tg. Perak - Badas - Bima - Tg. Silver

PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise which is engaged in sea transportation to date has operated as many as 26 passenger ships and stopped at 76 ports and served 1,058 segments.

In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 45 pioneer ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area, where pioneer ships stop at 285 ports with 3,811 segments. PELNI also operates 16 Rede vessels. While in logistics business services, PELNI now operates 9 sea toll routes and 1 special route for livestock transportation.
