During the PON in Aceh, KM Kelud Becomes a Tourist Center for Thousands of People in Malah
Aceh, September 15, 2024 -- the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation assigned PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) during the XXI PON Aceh - North Sumatra by presenting KM Kelud as a floating accommodation at Malahayati Port, Aceh during the period of September 5-21, 2024. The presence of KM Kelud at Malahayati Port has succeeded in attracting the attention of the surrounding community who are amazed by its large size.
Head of the Medan PELNI Branch, Romadoni, said that the presence of KM Kelud in Malahayati is an attraction for people to visit the port area. "Every day hundreds of visitors come and fill the pier. Especially this Sunday (15/9) morning, we invited visitors to do morning exercise at the pier. Everyone was happy and healthy during the exercise together," said Doni.
In addition to being attended by dozens of people, a number of students from the Aceh Fisheries Business Expert Polytechnic also participated in enlivening the morning exercise activity. "After participating in the exercise, the community can enjoy tea, coffee and green beans provided free of charge by the crew of the KM Kelud ship," added Doni.
The captain of the KM Kelud, Capt. Herman Obrein admitted that he was pleased with the enthusiasm of the Malahayati community. Herman said that the community was curious about the size of the ship which was very large and rarely seen in his area. "The total length of the KM Kelud is 146.5 meters. The crew was overwhelmed serving the community who wanted to see the ship's facilities, but we were happy to be able to introduce the safety equipment and entertainment facilities available on the KM Kelud," said Herman.
Since the KM Kelud docked at Malahayati Port, until Saturday (14/5) more than 14,160 people had visited the KM Kelud. Meanwhile, registrants to stay on the ship reached 4,356 people, with the realization of staying overnight as many as 1,313 people.
Vice President of PELNI Berryl A Insanul Firdaus explained that the presence of KM Kelud in Aceh was an assignment from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation to support the XXI PON Aceh - North Sumatra activities. "The public can stay overnight on the ship without being charged a penny. In addition to staying overnight, the public can also visit and see the PELNI ship facilities," said Berryl.
KM Kelud itself is a passenger ship with a capacity of 2000 pax with a regular route of Jakarta - Tanjung Balai Karimun - Batam - Batam. While K Kelud is on assignment in Aceh, the KM Kelud route is temporarily replaced by KM Dorolonda.
