PELNI Records 2025 Eid Homecoming Passenger Numbers Surpassing 2024 Figures

Jakarta, March 30, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) confirms that the 2025 Eid homecoming travel using PELNI vessels has been running smoothly. Based on data as of March 30, 2025 at 07:00 WIB, the number of passengers transported by PELNI ships during the homecoming period from March 16 to April 1, 2025 reached 304,977 people. This figure is higher than the same period during Eid 2024, which recorded 304,048 passengers, marking an increase of 0.31%. Although the increase is not significant, it reflects that PELNI's services remain a preferred choice for the public during the Eid travel season.

On March 30, 2025, or one day before Eid, PELNI recorded a total of 12,123 passengers in a single day, consisting of 12,091 passengers on regular passenger vessels and 32 on pioneer ships. This number is lower compared to previous days as the peak travel dates for PELNI ships had already occurred on March 26 and 28, 2025, with a combined total of 54,046 passengers over the two peak days.

PELNI Corporate Secretary Evan Eryanto stated that following the smooth operation of the homecoming flow, the company is now focusing on preparing for the post-Eid return flow.
“The number of homecoming passengers this year has increased compared to last year, and we are grateful the process went smoothly. For the return flow, we are ensuring all ships remain in excellent condition, and we continue to coordinate with port authorities and security personnel to ensure everything runs orderly. On behalf of PELNI’s management, I would also like to thank all stakeholders for their support in making the 2025 homecoming season safe, smooth, and enjoyable,” said Evan.

To support passenger comfort during the 2025 Eid homecoming period, PELNI has set up special service posts at three ports: Baubau, Batam, and Semarang. These posts offer free health check-ups and massage services, available to both passengers and non-passengers during the travel period.

Based on data from March 16 to 30, 2025, the five busiest PELNI routes were:

  1. Batam – Medan (20,468)

  2. Medan – Batam (15,024)

  3. Balikpapan – Surabaya (13,697)

  4. Kumai – Semarang (11,913)
